This February Humble Grape are excited to be welcoming Nicolas Laugner from Domaine Allimant-Laugner to our Humble Grape wine bars for two Meet the Winemaker Dinner. Trust us, this is an evening you won’t want to miss!
Picture a charming family estate nestled in Orschwiller, in Northern Alsace, France. Grandma Allimant married Grandpa Laugner, which gave the winery its name, but the two families have actually been cultivating vines since the 17th century. With 12 generations of history in each bottle, you’re in for a night of unparalleled expertise.
In 2013, after completing his studies, Nicolas stepped into the family legacy, taking charge of the cellar, production, and marketing. At this event, he’ll be sharing stories of their family’s history, talking you through each wine, and sharing their hidden techniques, such as the fact that they choose to do most of their tasks by hand! It truly is a labour of love, and you can taste it in every sip.
Producing a whole range of Alsace wines, from Riesling to Gewürztraminer, you’ll have the chance to try a selection of six white wines, as well as a delicate pale rosé.
Our wines will be paired perfectly with six dishes from our talented Executive Chef.
If you have any dietary requirements, please get in touch at this address: info@humblegrape.co.uk.
What’s on offer:
Allimant Laugner Cremant d’Alsace Rose NV
The Provence Rosé of sparkling. Delicate, darling and downright delicious. Made in the same way as Champagne from 100% Pinot Noir, this is so delicate in colour it is almost white, we think of it as the Provence Rosé of sparkling.
Allimant Laugner Pinot Gris 2021, Alsace, France
Rich, opulent and dignified, this is wine royalty right here. Nicolas Laugner would be better off putting a crown on this bottle rather than a label and a foil. Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same grape but this couldn’t be more different from its crisp Italian counterpart. Noble, full-bodied, mellow and simply a joy to drink.
Allimant Laugner Gewurztraminer 2021, Alsace France
Great Alsace Gewürztraminer is one of the wine world’s true originals. Like the great white shark this immense wine is perfect, with the sleek lines it has never had to evolve, worry about fashion or its position in the pecking order. Rich, plump, fragrant and unctuous, this is 100% bottle decadence.
Allimant Laugner Riesling 2021, Alsace France
Startlingly refreshing, it is the drinking equivalent of a whip crack close to your ear, like a lemon-packed cluster bomb in the mouth that instantly prompts the mouth to water in need of another swig.
Allimant Laugner Grand Cru Praelatenburg Riesling 2019, Alsace France
This is wine school. This Riesling is as defined, precise and reliable as Pythagoras’ Theorem. It has reams of history; the Praelatenberg parcel near the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle has been home to grapevines since the year 823AD. Its geology – granite, quartz and volcanic crystal-based soils – gives it an elegance and minerality rarely surpassed at this price range. Go on, teach your taste buds a lesson.
